How this site is made.

Drawn, not photographed. Every figure on these pages is a line drawing made for the place it sits, and the whole site is written by hand.

Type

Cormorant Garamond

Headlines and figures. A display Garamond by Christian Thalmann, set light and large, with numerals that stand upright wherever they count something.

Jost

Text and labels, by Owen Earl at indestructible type. A geometric sans with the proportions of the 1920s, set small and tracked wide for labels.

Both are released under the SIL Open Font License and served from this site, so no font service sees your visit.

Colour

  • Ink#14161A
  • Ivory#F4F0E8
  • Bronze#B8976A
  • Bronze, for text#7A5F3A

Three colours and nothing else. At night the page turns to ink and the bronze lifts a step, so it still reads.

Paper

A faint vellum grain lies over every page, so no surface reads as flat screen colour. It is a single small image, repeated.

The tower

The building on the home page is drawn live in your browser, level by level, from a few hundred lines of code. Its light follows the time of day in Miami, and after dark a few rooms are lit. It is an illustration, not a real project.

The name

Centamont joins centum, a hundred, and mont, a mountain: the stonecutter's hundredth blow, which splits the stone only because of the ninety-nine before it.
